22-year-old accused of assailing doctor in Zebbug - 20/11/2003

VALLETTA, Malta (di-ve news)--November 20 2003 - 1825CET Updated 1850CET--A 22-year-old Zebbug man Tommie Dimech was arraigned in court on Thursday evening and accused of grievously injuring without the intent to kill Dr Godfrey Farrugia on Wednesday at around 1700CET in the same locality.

He was charged with causing serious injuries in the face, neck or hand of the doctor by using a dagger and of trying to stab Margaret Zammit of Zebbug by waving a dagger in her direction.

Dimech was also accused with verbally threatening his wife Diane Dimech and of being in possession of a sharp weapon without the licence of the Police Commissioner.

Besides, he was also charged with breaching the public peace by shouting and fighting.

The man pleaded not guilty.

Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera presided over the court.

Police Inspectors Maria Stella Cutajar and Carmelo Magri prosecuted while lawyers Ian Farrugia and Joseph Galea Farrugia appeared for the accused
