European Parliament approves Mutual recognition of qualifications - 15/2/2004

First reading on the recognition of qualifications Directive

The vote on the recognition of qualifications Directive took place in Strasbourg on the 11th of February at the plenary session of the European Parliament.

Main achievements:

 The 35 specialities not common to all MS are back in Annex V
 Inclusion of new specialities will be possible when common to several countries instead of common to all MS
 Regime of part-time training modified
 Rules for the free provision of services have been reinforced even if not following the way recommended by CPME

The parliament has voted to retain the sectoral directive and
leave the mutual recognition system as it is.

That means that there will be mutual recognition of qualifications as long as they exist in both or more EU countries
