MAM to meet Data protection Commissioner on registration fee - 15/3/2004

MAM has verified that doctors in private practise have to register with the data protection commissioner. There are fines if one fails to register. Doctors are being asked to pay LM20 per year.

The MAM council is discussing the dataprotection issues with a legal expert specialised in the issue and considering what position to take.

A meeting has been arranged with the data protection commissioner. It is felt that there is nothing to justify such a payment. The doctor is keeping records in the interest of the patient. Representations will be made in this respect
