Malta Standards Authority and Air purifiers - MAM stand - 22/4/2004

The Medical Association of Malta is participating in the meetings being held by the Malta standards authority in an effort to define standards necessary for the "air purifiers" mentioned in the legal notice on smoking in public places.

Dr Mario Sammut has been nominated to represent MAM. Dr Appleyard, President of the World Medical Association stated during his recent visit to Malta as guest of MAM that so called air purifiers do not remove toxic gases, but rather only part of the particulate component of cigarette smoke.

In short although the poisonious substances persist, they become imperceptable.
