MAM meets Prime Minister - 13/6/2003

A delegation from MAM led by Dr. S. Fava met the Hon Prime minister .
Dr Fava congratulated the PM on his re-election. MAM urged the authorities to present the new health care professions act in parliament in the near future, so as to establish the specialist register and continue to develope post-graduate training progammes.

MAM pointed out that, one way of limiting the possible brain drain was to set up structured post graduate training programmes of the highest EU standards so as to avoid an exodus of junior doctors who normally man the emergency services.

MAM pointed out that the current indemnity cover for doctors was inadequate and needed to be improved.

The PM re-assured MAM that working conditions on the new hospital would be negotiated with the unions. He also recognised that as a professional association MAM had a contribution to make.
