Meeting in support of Two colleagues. - 18/6/2004

At the written request of a number of colleagues, an urgent meeting is being held at
The Medical School
date Monday 28th June at 12.30

Two of our colleagues have been charged in court facing criminal prosecution. It is felt that as colleagues, there should be a show of support by those attending for this meeting .

MAM has been lobbying to modify both the criminal and Civil code, so that the laws regulating allegations of malpractice be brought in line with international norms and standards, in the interest of patients and doctors alike.

It is felt that the current practice of prosecution by default despite the very low probability of conviction, using laws meant for traffic offences is unacceptable to the profession.

Both these topics will be discussed at the meeting, and the meeting should conclude with a clear statement on both matters.
