Latest meeting with insurers - 8/8/2003

The contents of the submissions to the office of fair trading were discussed. A new meeting will be held on the 1st of September to make the formal submissions.

MAM re-iterated its position that as there is no agreement at present - doctors are free to charge the fee they deem reasonable - and to bill either the patient or the insurer as they prefer.

Insurers expressed their disapproval of any abandoning of the direct settlement system - but failed to declare what level of re-imbursement they would be offering in the interim, till approval of the OFT is obtained.

All companies agreed that there should not be any long delay in payments.

As regards to medical reports MAM insisted that if too many were requested, than a charge would have to be considered.
