Fewer births
The number of births in Malta in January and February this year was the lowest since 2003.

Figures given in Parliament yesterday show there were 577 births in the first two months of this year compared to 631 in the same period in 2003; 605 in 2004, and 609 in 2005. The number of births in Gozo during January and February has remained relatively stable, with 49 in 2003 and 51 this year.

The details were given by Home Affairs Minister Tonio Borg in reply to a question in Parliament by Noel Farrugia.
