Not enough emphasis on human resources in medical sector – MAM
From the Malta Independent

This budget places great emphasis on the structural aspect of the health sector, but not enough on human resources, said Medical Association of Malta president Stephen Fava.

“Although it is extremely important that the investment is made in the physical structure and health apparatus, the system will not work unless there are doctors to run it,” he said.

Over the years, Malta has a problem of a brain drain in the medical sector – especially where doctors are concerned, said Dr Fava.

“We need to place more emphasis on human resources and so far it seems that no investment was allocated for this sector in the budget,” he added.

Malta has invested heavily in Mater Dei, but MAM is worried that it might not be possible to run the new hospital due to the lack of human resources.

However, Dr Fava noted with satisfaction that the travel tax was reduced. “As a result, travelling for work and conferences will be made easier for all those who are interested.”
