VALLETTA, Malta (di-ve news) -- 26 September 2003 0940CET Updated 1200 CET -- The Malta Union of Midwives and Nurses (MUMN) is immediately suspending the directives it had ordered to its members.

This decision, it said, was taken after the permanent secretary within the Office of the Prime Minister JR Grima invited the union to discuss the issue as MUMN had requested. The union had written to the Prime Minister asking for a meeting in which it could explain its proposals on the sectoral agreement and early retirement. This meeting will now be held on Monday morning at 1100CET at the Office of the Prime Minister.

MUMN augured that this sense of good will from both parts helps in finding a solution to this issue.

The union thanked its members for their support and the public for its cooperation.
